Fortnite is a game that’s almost synonymous with the whole video games industry as each time the talk of video games comes up, odds are, the name ‘Fortnite’ will also feature in the talk. The massive popularity of Fortnite is quite astonishing considering the fact that the game was released just as recent as July 25, 2017.
When it comes to Fortnite, there are three game modes that players can choose to play. The least popular among these game modes is Fortnite: Creative – a game in which players are given complete freedom to come up with their own battle arenas and worlds. The second most popular of the game modes is Fortnite: Save the World. When playing Fortnite: Save the World, players find themselves in an environment with a huge hybrid tower. The objective when playing the game is to protect the hybrid tower from the advancing and marauding zombie-like creatures. On this front, players have the room to fight off the zombies in combat or build fortified structures that make it difficult for the zombies to penetrate. The most popular of all game modes is the Fortnite: Battle Royale.
When players start playing Fortnite: Battle Royale, they find themselves being dropped onto an island where they fight against other human enemies for the chance to become the last man standing. Fortnite: Battle Royale can be played solo, in pairs as duos, in groups of three as trios or in groups of four as squads. Though a battle royale game, Fortnite: Battle Royale differs from other battle royale games in that it fuses battle royale gameplay elements with construction elements. What this means is that players may evade death not by stealth only but also by building fortification structures. Elements such as wood, stone and metal are readily available but time is a precious limited resource. Without adequate time, players can build fortifications of limited durability to ward off attacks. However, those who manage to find more time to spend on construction; they can come up with stronger fortifications that can withstand more damage.
Fortnite as an eSport
In the eSports industry, Fortnite is one of the most popular games. Owing to the popular of Fortnite as an eSports, the game attracts multitudes of fans, hundreds of players and gross millions of monetary prizes. The eSport is the very first game to have a World Cup tournament for its players known as the Fortnite World Cup. The World Cup has however been cancelled for 2021 with the FNCS Season 6 All-Star Showdown Tournament replacing it.
